Re: Rear wheel only drive

This is good. The T50 trans. I figured since the stock transmission output shaft is not in-line with the clutch center, I'd have to lower the motor. The only other concern is where the shifter ends up. It looks like it's further back than the one on the Tercel. Knit picking at this point though. As ...

Re: Rear wheel only drive

I'm so glad I've generated interest on the subject. Being such a "Lazy Mechanic" I recognize that many of you have much put a lot more thought into lots of toyota models, not just our Tercels. First thought about the differential: Having no third differential between the front and back, just having ...

Rear wheel only drive

As many here on the forum, I have more than a couple parts cars. One of them has a busted trans. Any time I think about having to pull a transmission, It's not a pleasant notion. I don't have a lift. I think about how simple and easy it used to be to pull the Muncie out of my old camaro. 4 bolts on ...

How Much are tires these days?

A friend of mine works for a tire distributor. I figured $25.00 per tire for cheap uniroils was fair. So then I'm going around to the hole-in-the-wall mechanics and they all want another $25.00 per tire just to put them on, of course using their expensive AMMCO tire changer. Yea, O.K. So then I see ...

Re: Busted front differential case

Yea, it wud'n like I was comin from the bar or nuthin. I'd a noticed runnin off the road. Somethin probably kicked up and did it. But it really looked like it came from the inside. I especially remember winding it out off the line to get over a few lanes to the on-ramp. I stuck my pinky in the drain ...

Busted front differential case

Not really a question, but someone might enlighten me. I noticed oil beading on my rear window on the highway last week and it took me a day to find the gushing leak. In that time I started to hear gear whine which clued me into where to look. Turned out to be a triangular crack in the front ...

I always use a straight weight oil in all my engines especially the high mileage ones. Here's why. A two weight oil (10w40 for instance) is just the lighter weight with microscopic noodles in it. when the oil is cold, the noodles are rolled up in a ball. when it gets hot, the noodles unravel and ...

Once you jack it, it'd be nice to have bigger tires. Then lower gears. I wouldn't do all this with a highway car, but has anyone changed out the differentials to a lower ratio? Even with my stock all-rounder, I've always wanted to make rear wheel drive default rather than front. Anyone else try? My ...

Just read the neat hatch thing. My current SR5's gauge works but it's sluggish. When it goes, it's nice to know it's an easy fix. I'd like to cut a hatch in the floor so swapping the transmission is easy. Just threw that out there, but seriously, I'd do it if it saves me the slightest hassle more ...

Of the four SR5's I've owned, only the first one had a bad tank gauge. I got a 2 gallon tank, put it in back, kept it full, and like a reserve on a motorcycle, used going dry to clue me that it was time to get gas. I don't even know what mileage I'm getting with all the cars since, but that one had ...

Air temp has everything to do with top speed. Wind resistance is everything over 80mph and cold air is heavy air. I notice a big difference between 35 deg. and 65 deg. and when it gets down to the teens, forget about it. My speed assessments (and I'm not going to talk numbers here) are on 500cc ...

Just found the second page of this thread. Yea, I have reached 98 in fourth. my exhaust has found its own way around the catalytic converter and it takes about a mile to get up to that speed. I normally don't push my small motors like this but once, in my previous SR5 with all the gears working, I ...

Granted, with out doing any mods, my exhaust may be a little less restricted that it was new. . .
