WTB: Pair self-adjusters for '85 5 door rear drums
Getting ready to replace drums/brakes on my '85 5 door 2wd and in need of self adjusters. Drums worn down so much where one unit actually fell out and is missing. Anyone have a spare set they're willing to part with? I'm on the East coast. Thanks in advance.

Re: Jury rigging Solenoid contacts on '85 gear reduction sta
Thanks for the response. Car is actually a 4 door hatchback, 2 wheel drive, manual trans. Pep Boys looks to be coast to coast but I'm on the east coast in the DC area (21701). Pep Boys is not known for their competence but when they offered to transfer both in, I figured it would work with one of ...

Jury rigging Solenoid contacts on '85 gear reduction starter
I have what seems to be bad solenoid contacts on my starter. Makes a single tink when turning the key and ranges from 1 to 20 times before finally engages to start the engine. I cleaned all the cable connections and actually ordered a rebuilt replacement for simplicity's sake. 2 separate part #'s ...

WTB Axle Hub '85 2WD 4 door
I've got an intermittent noise on the front drivers side that I think I've localized to the wheel bearing. Put a new CV shaft on less than 2000 miles ago which was a re-manufactured one so can't imagine the noise is from it. The CV shaft is junk, but just a different noise than what the original was ...

Needed: '85 Caliper Mounting Bracket, LH Hatchback
Looking for just the torque plate for an '85 5door, drivers side. Finally did the half-shaft repair but twisted off a bolt on the mounting plate when removing the rotor. Junk yards in my area are not too helpful so thought I'd try on here. The old torque plate is at the mechanics who says he can ...

Re: Tight Half Shaft
Certainly good advice and I did consider it when I was working on it. I did not use a block of wood but did attempt to pry/slam off of the more substantial looking section of the housing. When I get to the passenger side axle I'll be better prepared and have the car jacked higher than what the ...

Re: Tight Half Shaft
SUCCESS! Part of posting is to take a break and give a little more thought to the problem. I found that the rigid bar worked by ramming it against the transaxle housing. Constant pressure didn't work, nor did a hammer on the end of the bar. Once I tried to slam the bar against the transaxle, it ...

Tight Half Shaft
Thought I was home free with everything but now can not pop the drivers side half shaft out of the transaxle. Using a flat "wonder bar" with a combination of all my force or tapping on end with hammer. Gets a good bite on the half shaft, just no movement or release. Going to try a more rigid bar to ...

Re: Stymied working on front half shaft, torque plate remova
Thanks for the response and it has been resolved. I was able to drive out the seized bolt with plate attached. It did crack on the front rail so for now I'll just deal with that. Junk yards close by are not too great with older parts but at the worst, a new caliper and torque plate are $45 or so ...

Stymied working on front half shaft, torque plate removal
Ok, nube here and my '85 is only a hatchback, but I do love it. Hope to find a 4wd this spring and go all in. Finally needing to replace the drivers side half shaft and am stuck at the moment. Using a combination of book procedure and tips I've gleaned off of this site.
