Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

Simon, that's interesting you had to really hammer your axles in. My problem axle went in fine, just a couple taps with a heavy hammer, like normal. The axle removal forks I bought worked well, though they would work even better if the car was up on a stand. I didn't have a ton of room to swing the ...

Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

I should note that this was a brand new axle I just put in a few weeks ago. My old axle had a torn boot and I was doing other front end work so I thought I'd replace the axle before it started clunking. The axle seal never leaked before so I didn't think to replace it then, but within a few days of ...

Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

Got it! Well, my wife got it. I tried a magnet tool in both the axle hole and drain hole, and drained the gear oil and filtered it, no luck. My wife came home and I bitched about what a cluster**** this simple job had turned into, and she wanted to see. Right away she found one piece of the clip on ...

CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

thumbnail_2021-04-20_16.27.411.jpg I had a leaking axle seal so I went to remove the axle. It was a bastard and took a ton of effort, which I knew was a bad sign. It finally came out and to my great dread, the clip is no longer on the axle. I stuck my finger in and thought I felt it in there so I t...

Re: Manual Steering?

“PS” = power steering can steer someone the wrong way. Need to drive them into automatic transmission fluid which tercel racks require. I'm no authority on this but I used regular power steering fluid on my tercels (I never knew they required ATF) AND never had a problem with it. ATF is much less e...

Re: 1985 Toyota Tercel Wagon SR5 forsale

You can always aim high and see if it sells for that. When I sell cars and people send me offers, I don't respond to them. That way if I am unable to get the price i want for the car, I can go back to those offers later and say "your email was in my junk folder, just found it, yes I'll take tha...

Re: Window troubles

Yes, this is a common problem. It's not stripped plastic though, it's the metal teeth of the window regulator that are likely stripped. I think Xirdneh posted something about a way to possibly repair the teeth but I can't remember now. They are easy enough to replace if you have access to a good spa...

Re: New ole number seven, sadly he's getting put down.

Wow, sounds like a great find. I'm not clear though, what are your plans for this new one? Is it going to be another Icehawk? I check the listings here regularly but there has been nothing in the way of 4wd Tercels or Corollas for quite some time. It's crazy how things change, I remember seeing them...

Hmmm, good thinking, that's certainly a possibility. I don't know if the OBD system in these cars is that sophisticated though, as the speedometer runs off a cable.

Re: upper rad hose pipe fitting on head.

Were you able to drive the car to the welder, or tow it? Either way, I'd be thrilled to do that and pay $280 to have someone fix it, and save myself the work of removing the head, so this is a happy ending in my book!

'91 corolla - idle won't drop till car stops rolling

Since I've had my '91 FWD corolla, it's had this weird thing where if I coast in neutral, the rpm hover at about 1700-1800 until the car physically stops rolling. Only then will the idle drop the rest of the way to 800 rpm. It's not a big deal, it's not like I spend a lot of time cruising down hills...
