OEM Rubber Inserts for Windshield Wiper Blades

Post by mijaku »

I just got some OEM rubber inserts (85214-24H90) for my original windshield wiper blades (side saddle type). I got them from a dealer (Longo Toyota). By coincidence, I purchased my Tercel 4WD from them many years ago.

Even though the part description read, “Windshield Wiper Blade Refill (Rear),” it’s length measured 19-1/2 in., longer than the insert required for the front and rear blades. I ended up ordering three of them.

I did not remove the blades from the wiper arms per old Toyota Wiper Insert instructions that I have to remove the old rubber insert. It took a while for me to figure out how to maneuver the new rubber insert into the blade support rib. I had an easier time with the front inserts than the rear one.

Canadian Tire used to sell universal versions of those. I liked them because they made sense (the rubber wears out but the metal frame of the wiper rarely needs to be replaced) and were way cheaper. They stopped selling them a while back unfortunately but I guess I could look online for them. The rubber blade portion can be a bit of a pain to install into the frame, I got better at it with practice.
