Re: Cardone CV Axle troubles
I made a point to try all the different brands of new CV axles on Rock Auto over the last few years. Trakmotive seems to be the most popular with the Tercel crowd but I had a massive problem with one due to a faulty c-clip -- it seems like that was an anomaly, most people haven't had problems with T...

Re: Transmission.. Refresh?
When I have transmissions out, I like to replace the CV axle seals, 4wd shifter seal, and rear output shaft seal. You're right, it's much, much easier to do them with the trans out of the car. I also like to remove the shifter (which you will already have done to get the trans out of the car) and ch...

Wtb: rear left mud flap
If anyone has a rear left mud flap, preferably from an 85-88, that they would be willing to sell and ship to me, please let me know. I have the right one, as pictured below. Thanks!

Re: 83 engine vacuum line locations
back to this issue again. today, i noticed there is a very faded diagram on the hood that shows the vacuum lines. Can anyone take a picture of a readable sticker for the vacuum lines on this car? I think 83 and 84 are the same. Does your car have the federal or California emissions package? My cars...

Re: Fuel tank access hole
Rust penetrants are a must of course but they are only part of the solution. You still have to have a really light touch on the wrench/ratchet/screwdriver, and the patience work things back and forth lots to break small, rusty, old nuts and bolts free without stripping the heads or shearing the shaf...

Re: Fuel tank access hole
Take a look at Rockauto under Fuel Line / Hose for the Tercel; the Spectra Premium FG81A fuel tank pickup line assembly is shown for FWD applications. This might work on the wagon after carefully "adjusting" the metal lines below the plate to fit. I think someone here looked into this bef...

Re: Rockauto discount code
If I can't find an up to date Rock Auto code here on the forum I just search for "rock auto discount code" and go to the 'retail me not' site. Those have always worked for me. Here's one I just grabbed from there.

Re: Radiator story and pesky mud wasps
Wow, that's some good sleuthing you did there, Ace. You just never know what weird causes you will come across for some problems. I will try to remember this for future reference.
Did you fasten some kind of bug screen over the end of that hose to prevent it from happening again?

Re: Running too warm.
Other possibilities: Malfunctioning thermostat not opening fully. I could be wrong but I've always had the understanding that thermostats are designed to fail in the open position so that they when they fail, they only cause the engine to run cool and won't overheat it. That might be a broad genera...

Re: Running too warm.
I agree with you, the green line seems good and the yellow line seems a bit too hot. My first suspects with running hot are radiators and head gaskets. First thing I would do is a compression test to rule out the head gasket -- that's free and easy and gives you more information about what's going o...
