Re: '83 tercel for parts/repair
xirdneh, you can have to whole car for $200 if you want to deal with it; heck I might let it go for less if you let me keep the inclinometer (was going to pull it if I scrapped it as a memento). I just don't have time to pull the tranny.

'83 tercel for parts/repair
Hey All Tercel4wd'ers out there,
Unfortunately my Tercel threw a rod the other day, wrecking the engine block (unless engine blocks are supposed to have skylights.... :P ). I don't have time to get a new engine and install it, so it either needs to get scrapped (it would break my heart to see it ...

Re: Timing vacuum advance needed
Thanks DLB and Petros, I know that a new vacuum advance (and know the theory and functionality of one) isn't going to make any appreciable difference as far as power is concerned in and of itself; it's just the first piece in getting everything dialed in. The diaphragm in the upper section of the ...

Timing vacuum advance needed
If anyone out there has a functional one kicking around let me know, I'm in the market; not having any power is getting to be a drag. If you're not willing to dissect a distributor, I might be talked into buying the whole setup (though ideally, I only need the vacuum advance). Drop me a note with ...

Re: Stuck rear axle
Thanks all. I guess I'll give it another go with the slide hammer, and if it doesn't give after that I'll swap back ends.

Stuck rear axle
Hey,
My rear axle bearing failed on my '83 and when I went to go pull the axle to replace it I was unable to pull the axle. The manual makes it look like the axle is held on only by the retainer plate that is accessible by removing the brake drum (and not by a c-clip on the differential end of the ...

Looking for Ignition Vacuum Advance
Hey,
Anyone have an old functioning vacuum advance kicking around I could sure use it. I'm looking for the dual one that you find on the M/T (the car it's going on is an '83) with the two ports and not the three that you see on the A/T. If you have one let me know the price. Thanks.

Re: Electrical issue
Problem solved!!! It was a faulty NEW voltage regulator (thanks takza for the tip, if the same thing hadn't happened to you, I wouldn't have even considered the new voltage regulator to be an issue). Now the question is why have I destroyed two voltage regulators within 4 months. But that can wait.

Electrical issue
Hey,
This isn't a tercel specific question, per say, but I'm at my wits end with it. So here's the story:
I blew my water pump on my '83 tercel 4wd about a week ago (not a big deal, and it was about due so it makes sense). When my pump went, my charge light came on (makes sense as the belt fell off ...

Looking for Speedo Cable connector.
Can't say if that is what it is actually called, it is just the best way I know how to describe it. On the 4X4, the speedometer gear is set further back on the transmission so there is this little 90 degree adapter that connects the speedometer cable to the transmission. If anyone has a parts 4X4 ...

Transmission compatibility
Hey,
I need to replace my 1983 tranny but I can't find any around town. The closest I can find is an '86. Would the '86 be compatible with my '83? I was looking through the forum and saw that they may be compatible but the front differential may be different. If anyone could help clear this up for ...

Re: Awful Tranny noise
So I managed to get the tranny off (I had to let the engine tip back a touch more than I had been allowing it before, I didn't want to tweak the engine mount more than I needed too). My problem however was not the clutch (though it was close to needing to be done). The problem was in the tranny ...

Re: Awful Tranny noise
I'm having a problem very similar to logbear. I'm in Portland and got hit with the same cold snap. For a day I had horrible noises coming from the transmission (fine in 2nd and 5th at first) then the next day I wasn't able to get the car in gear at all, so I'm pretty sure the clutch went out (it was ...
