Re: How do I tell the correct tranny replacement?
I finally found a tranny at a junkyard. Seems okay. The 4wd works fine. Only trouble I can see is when I'm going uphill and need to downshift from 5th to 4th, I can't go directly into 4th. Have to go up to 3rd then down to 4th. Is this bad or just an inconvenience?

Re: How do I tell the correct tranny replacement?
Well, I found the correct transmission at a wrecking yard yesterday, had it put in today, and it seems to run good. Hopefully it will do so for a while, right before Christmas I had to replace the engine, then last week the trans went! Rough month or two. By the way, if you need to tell the ...

Re: How do I tell the correct tranny replacement?
Okay, I may have to go with a newer tranny and worry about the rear end later. If I get a JDM engine (from Japan) is there things that are different since there cars are right hand drive? Also, in the future is it easier to change the rear end out or just change the gears?

Re: How do I tell the correct tranny replacement?
Is there a way to tell what rear end gear ratio I have? I'm wondering this because the few times I've used the 4wd I have to practically use a hammer to go back into 2wd. A transmission place said to find out what numbers were on the gear that the speedometer cable goes into. Hopefully I can figure ...

How do I tell the correct tranny replacement?
My transmission is toast. I know different years had different gears, will that make a difference on the rear end? How do I tell if the gears are correct. Most junkyards and JDM places just have them listed as 83-88 4wd manual trannys. Is any year okay or is there a difference?

Need a Transmission!! (What happened?)
I think my transmission went out today. Last few weeks, it's been popping out of 2nd and 4th when I downshift or even try and shift. Today 3rd and 4th completely went. I tried to drive a little, and EVERYTHING isn't working. I try to start off in any gear, and it feels like the emergency brake is on ...

Hello,
I put my stock rims back on the car, so I'm selling the alloys:

Re: Strange loss of power while drivine....
I took out the spark plugs this morning, and the #3 plug, the electrode part is MISSING. Gone. Is this bad, do they burn up or is this in the cylinder causing problems?

Strange loss of power while drivine....
Okay, so last night I'm driving home up the Grapevine (A 7% or so grade for about 8 miles). Towards the top, I usually have to go into 3rd in hopes of not getting run over by the big rigs. Last night, in 3rd, at about 3800 rpm's there was suddenly no power and it was running real rough, like a ...

I had to ask a question about my 84 right before I bought it, and had a mental block, so I called myself what I might buy!!

I had an automatic 87 that the tranny broke, so I kept it as a parts car for a while after I found my 84. The keys worked both cars, all locks and the ignition. Thought this was strange, but apparently not....

What small opening? Is this on the thermostat itself? The radiator is full when it is cold.takza wrote:Did you make sure the small opening on the thermostat plate was at the top? Is the rad full when you open the cap cold?
