1984 A/T RPM's

Post by irowiki »

This is mostly for Dan but will post for reference sake.

This is my 1984 automatic transmission RPM's at various speeds (speed). Note my speedo is about 3 MPH slow. Will add 55 and 60 later.

Yeah my clock is shot and there's a glowing wire in there, so I need a new cluster

that glowing wire is super weird. i think the clock has its own fuse. i may be paranoid but i would remove it just in case.

The clock gets power from three places, dome light (to keep time), accessory (to turn clock on) and tail light (I guess to either light it up or dim it?)

It was back feeding power into the accessory circuit when turned off, so I removed the red wire on the back of the cluster that fed it accessory power.

It glows even when turned off, so I think it is glowing off the dome light fuse!

haha, i should've known you'd be on it. so if you also remove the dome light fuse, does that kill the glowing wire? geez, that's weird.

You are just screaming along!

Did I miss something about a "glowing wire" in this thread?

End of my first post! Look at the clock in the pictures.

EDIT - A-Ha! I wondered about that, but finally concluded it was just some sort of weird reflection. Guess I need an eye transplant... Tom M.

Thanks foe picks with the tac on an auto it's good to know.
I would have guessed the rpm much higher it's likely that my ears are playing tricks on me because I drive both an auto and manual the manual at 70 is a full 1000 slower and therefore much less noise. Still a little faster than I prefer at least I know I'm not red lining the engine. Thanks

The glowing clock is the GHOST OF TERCEL PAST hahaha

I have a spare Sr5 cluster I think I will see if I can dissect It enough to turn back the odometer the same as the car it's going into. I did it once before on an old truck I had.
