Speaking of stupid tranny abuses.
I have had issues with a sticky 3rd downshift for years, several flushes and many additives always helped for awhile but it reared its head again last winter.
Poor little car has been fulfilling DD duties since last October.
In February, some friends were headed out ice fishing and I decided to join them.
Instead of getting to the lake at 9:30 as planned it was closer to 11, given that I had to be off the ice by 2 to make it back to pick up boy at school I opted to drive out to meet them. After all they said there was only 6 inches of powder to deal with.
Turns out there as 8in of semi-hard pack underneath the powder.
As I was already committed, I found that by staying in the ATV tracks I could make headway in EL at 4500rpm.
Made it out fished and headed off to collect my son who, as it happens, wanted to go fishing too.
We went back out and met up the the boys again.
In total there was a good 2 hours of high revving abuse in EL and on the way home the 3rd downshift was as smooth as butter.
Not that I would recommend this as a "fix" but nearly 30K later 3rd gear is still a happy camper.
