the local A/c place offered to replace the seals, covert the fittings to the new style, flush and refill the system with the new refrigerant for about $100. sounds like a good deal.
I just have to get it all installed, or pay him about $300 to install it all (his estimate, includes replacing the oil in the compressor and new seals in it).

Wow Peter, perhaps I need to shop around, $100 would be a bang up deal. What company are you using?
The conversion kit is interesting too...

Re: WTB: need air conditioner parts (condenser and all mount
local repair shop, B and T automotive, Arlington WA. too long a drive for you. They are a great shop, good local rep and well trusted, price is fair too. I spent several days trying to track down a darn leak in our Buick (a bad thing to have in a car around here!), I was ready to drive the car into the river. They said they have a "leak specialist" that will fix it for a flat charged of $47 to find and fix it. I told the guy everything I have tried, and he went at it. So now they have retried 3 different times at no extra charge, and I will keep taking it back until it is finally fixed. It will be a bargain.

Ah, that gives me motivation to call around here for more quotes. But ac repair is in much more demand here too.

Re: WTB: need air conditioner parts (condenser and all mount
I got all of the parts in over the weekend, and had the ac guy change the seals and charged it up, worked first try!
I used a combo of parts from several tercel owners that forum member Xirdneh brought over on sunday afternoon, and some parts I had laying around.
It is interesting that all the wiring, mounts and everything necessary was in this car that was never delivered with A/c in it, and now all of these vintage Tercel a/c parts were installed, and it WORKS!. the A/c guy says the Japanese compressors are usually pretty durable and hold up well, but we are talking about 30 year old used parts! that is really remarkable. he said he did not detect any leaks, but I should watch it, and it will likely need to be recharged more often (Like very two years) compared to modern systems.
thanks all, we will be driving it to Texas in about 10 days, via California. Now I just have to get a new radio installed and do some addition touch up.

Re: WTB: need air conditioner parts (condenser and all mount
So Peter, I want to get the AC working on Pokey (wagon I bought from you), and I have a spare compressor (it was suspected the current one is seized). So all we need to do is change the compressor, the seals, and get it converted/charged and we should be good?

Re: WTB: need air conditioner parts (condenser and all mount
usually that is all that is necessary. you can buy the kit and do the conversion yourself. they replace all the o-rings, and to a new type filler valves. They usually change the oil in the pump when it gets serviced too.
I will have to look into shipping costs to Australia for the condenser, likely it will cost more than it is worth.
