WTB: need air conditioner parts (condenser and all mounts)

Hi all,

I am adding air conditioner to an auto wagon I picked up cheap for my daughter to drive in Austin TX. normally I would do without, but in Texas, A/C is almost a requirement.

so I am trying to gather up all the parts I need to cover it, I need them ASAP, I have to leave in two weeks with a working AC in it. I can use all the parts, I have some of the interior parts, and misc other parts, could use all the underhood parts. Particularly the condenser, hoses, compressor and the compressor mounts.

I had all these parts in my garage for years because I always took them off my daily driver or the parts cars, but I got rid of most of it after they sat there for over six years. Now I need it all back!

My local pick&pull has a sr5 with all options 110k with front end dammage?
If you would like i can grab everything on a list for you?
Or i likley have alot of the stuff loose in buckets that came in one of my parts cars?(i'll go through everything this afternoon)

Personally I would go with the junkyard option it's a low mile car

So Peter, you're taking a wagon with no AC at all and retrofitting AC into it?

LEt me know what you needed to do to finally get it going (and converted to the current freon?)

the conversion is easy, they put new o-rings in the hose couplings that are compatible with the new refrigerant, and than put adapters on the recharge port (indicating it uses the new refrigerant). as far as I can see, it looks like everything just bolts on from an a/c equipped car, I am reasonably certain even the wire bundle is in place for it.

Is the conversion kit available to buy for us normal folks, or is it a repair shop only item?

A/C conversion kits should be available aftermarket. Call around for availability.

I doubt i can get a kit for a car that is 30 years old, beside the factory stuff if cheap and reliable, and fits right. I think I have everything I need from local forum members. thanks all, we will see how it all comes together.

The 12 -> 134 kit is universal as far as I know. Midas wants $70 for it.

only $70? is that one of those units that goes under the dash, 12 v. powered (no belt driven compressor). Otherwise I do not see how it is possible to sell it that cheap. how well does it put out? The car with be in the hot and humid Austin TX. It cost much more than $70 to just have the factory a/c recharged!

I think he is talking about a refrigerant swap kit not an entire a/c system"just the juice with new fittings".

Yeah, to convert my 83 to the new refrigerant I was quoted $232 parts and labor, including evacuating the system, cleaning it out including the old oil, new fittings, adding the new oil, charging up the system, checking for leaks and replacing seals.

Apparently the fittings on the compressor are changed.

That is correct all fittings are new so you can't put the wrong stuff in the system
