Blue 194 LED's
Re: Blue 194 LED's
That is exactly why I changed them. The white LEDs would look fine by themselves, but with the headlights on they seemed blue. The headlights put out a yellow light, so even though technically the LED was pure white, they seemed blue...and I don't wanna line any pockets downtown.
These amber LEDs are ok, but I keep thinking they will be brighter than they are. I may have to go with an SMD panel to get the effect I am looking for.

Hey that what I'm looking for, I current have Orange 194 at front running light beside the head light , I had them since 1999 and trying to get them brighter as "FOG LIGHT" , where can I get them .EliRush wrote:I just put these into the front parking lights, and I can get a picture if anyone is interested. I had true whites in there, but it looked blue at night.
I shouldn't worry about the federal law now because all those new car's light are extremely bright and they are factory too , even the Local buses too.

Well I bought a pair of 194 Orange LED as for running light , if they are very powerful then I might add independent switch as "Fog light "toughtercel wrote:Hey that what I'm looking for, I current have Orange 194 at front running light beside the head light , I had them since 1999 and trying to get them brighter as "FOG LIGHT" , where can I get them .EliRush wrote:I just put these into the front parking lights, and I can get a picture if anyone is interested. Re: Blue 194 LED's
well I got the Orange 194 LED light for front running light , It little bright but it only shoot one spot so I am order another brand of Orange 194 LED which I hope it will shine all over the place like "fog light "
Re: Blue 194 LED's
I had the same thought, toughtercel. A few times, apparently.
I have rigged a 1157 tail light LED into a 194 base, but it still isn't bright enough for real fogs.
Maybe one like http://www.ebay.com/itm/251039240474 would be strong enough, but heat could be a problem.
I am content with the standard yellow 194 SMDs. Anything I have that is brighter is pure white.

Could easily add your own dimmer, assuming they can take a lower voltage. Or rig them up to the parking light circuit?

Re: Blue 194 LED's
my LED flash light goes dim as the batteries wear, no reason a dimmer will not work on the dash LEDs. If your car does not have a dimmer you can always put some translucent tape or plastic over the lights when you install them to reduce the amount of light they put out.

Here is the night shot. When I turn down my dimmer knob the brightness stays constant until I get to the very end and then they shut off. I would probably have to get a different potentiometer? But I think the brightness is livable for now. It's actually my new Tach that I will probably end up hatingPetros wrote:my LED flash light goes dim as the batteries wear, no reason a dimmer will not work on the dash LEDs. Re: Blue 194 LED's
what you might try doing is finding some red light condoms, as opposed to the green ones that come stock on our cars, and stick those over the stock bulbs. then you would have the red dash cluster but you'd be able to control the brightness. i can't remember where i read about people finding the red light condoms but i think they're pretty common to BMWs or audis.

Re: Red 194 LED's
I do not know much about how the LED responds to power input, I seem to remember my electrical engineer brother saying they stay constant because the draw so little power, but than I have also had the experience with batteries running low and seeing them go dim. Perhaps that is because the voltage drops, not the amps. I suspect the dimmer in the car may drop amps to the lights, not voltage, which would stay constant.JesseN wrote: Here is the night shot. For your tach, there is always the old standby; black tape on the face of it. If you wanted to open it up and just pull the plug on the digital display that would solve that, but black tape is the more reliable approach, and no risk of harming the electronics. sometimes the simple solution is the best.

Re: Blue 194 LED's
Know this is an old thread, but I wondered about the dimming capabilities too as I started reading.
As I understand LED does draw like 10% of incandescent but can operate on dimable systems but the dimmer needs to be digital not analogue, like the dimmer knob is just a high resistance coil and two zone contact, I'm sure there is aftermarket units available, new cars have LED gauges and are most likely dimable (I've not had too much time to play with new cars.)

It takes more fossil fuel resources to produce new vehicles than it would take to maintain and fuel any 70's or 80's vehicle for a million miles.

Re: Blue 194 LED's
Still thinking about the LED overhaul, anyone ever find the itsy bitsy bulbs for the lighted controls?
Are they the #74 bulbs like this?
https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinf ... -base/226/
3/16x3/4 sounds about right

I don't know if I'd bother to swap the air conditioner button bulb or not but if Someone knew if there was a right and left bulb on the speedometer to do something like this, I'd do it too.
