ignition switch
With a non functional ignition switch can you get an 85 started? I was thinking jumper from battery straight to starter with the switch on. Or would you have to remove the switch and hot wire it?

Re: ignition switch
i bought a tercel once that had a missing ignition (just the part the key goes in)
they were putting a flat end screwdriver in the cavity and twisting it to start

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Re: ignition switch
I've done this a few times---Yes this will work, just takes a minute to turn the starter be sure not to let the starter run too long...its bad for the solenoid.DuB.wEasEl wrote:With a non functional ignition switch can you get an 85 started? Re: ignition switch
if the contacts on the electrical part are wearing out, it is possible to pop it open, clean the contacts and stretch the spring to make better contact, and put it back together. If the key cylinder wears out, I had them jam up when the tumblers failed, you just remove the tumbers and put the cylinder back in. I call it my "decoy" lock, looks like a lock but you can put anything in it and it will turn.
