Caution, NathanRoberts.
Beware of danzo; sometimes he speaks before thinking... Tom M.
P.S. Note that my RED is not to reference my state's recent voting record, but the soon-to-be World Champion .....(for the 11th time) St. Louis Cardinals.
Oh - did I not also mention that this is the Cards' 18th trip to the W.S.? My bad...
Oh - did I not also mention that this is the Cards' 6th Pennant since the Rangers were founded in 1972? My bad...
Oh - sorry - the Rangers DO have two pennants. My bad...

I'd doubt we'd be seeing the Mariners in a World Series, as in the 34 years of their existence they have yet to produce a pennant...

my fave sports teams are always the biggest losers--i don't know if anyone remembers the hockey team, the hartford whalers? boy, i loved their logo. don't think they won anything before becoming whatever team they are now but who cares? i carved their old logo on a jack-o-lantern a few years ago and received some rave reviews so i think there are others with a soft spot for them.
Nice game Monday. Tom be sure to wear your Ranger Red tonight as the good guys close out the series! I've already got my car-flipping pants on.
True we have a checkered past, just needed a new stadium to get better. I trust you have the (unopened) 6 pack of Schlafley's at the ready?

Hey - the Cards were always drama queens: It took
7 games in 1926 v. the Yankees -
7 games in 1931 v. the Phillie A's -
7 games in 1934 v. the Tigers -
7 games in 1946 v. the Red Sox -
7 games in 1964 v. the Yankees -
7 games in 1967 v. the Red Sox -
7 games in 1982 v. the Brewers.
Oddly, it took 6 games in 1944 against the lowly STL Browns (we were hampered by so many players in the War; the Brownies were a 4-F team - always).
Of course, we also lost in 7 games in 1987 v. the Twins.

P.S. GO CARDS ! ! !
P.P.S. OK, OK - we had a debacle in 2004 against the Red Sox, losing 4 games to 0 games.
P.P.S.S. Will the Lone Star bubble too much on its trip way up here? I want to drink it with a big smile...

Sadly, the weather has not cooperated here, so the 6th game is now Thursday, to be followed by our dramatic 7th game win on Friday.
I note you've already visited since my previous post and did not reply; no doubt you were dazzled by the sheer number of wins of the World Series posted and had to step away from the keyboard.
Note that I listed but 8 of the ten (10) W.S. WINS and did not list the other two W.S. SMASHES - and but one of the 7 W.S. losses.

Well - I eschew scatological remarks on my Face book "Wall," but tonight I kinda bent the rule: HO - LEE - (well, you know the rest)...
What a ninth ! What a tenth ! WHAT AN ELEVENTH ! ! !
Bernard Malamud - look down, sharpen your pencil, and get ready for a new book !

I kept thinking during the ninth, then during the tenth, then during the eleventh - "Don't let this be a repeat of 'Casey at the Bat'" I know I was not alone as I sat at the TV screen with tears streaming down my cheeks; we saw something that was so much more real than Malamud's hero Roy Hobbs' effort.
It may be corny, but afterwards, trying to comprehend what we just saw, I kept thinking of Henry V's speech before Agincourt: This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say, "To-morrow is Saint Crispian."
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say, "These wounds I had on Crispin's day."
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words,
Harry the King, Bedford, and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."

Petros wrote:err, Tom, that was actually Shakespeare. Though it is a great speech, as i understand it, there was no evidence that king Henry ever said it.
Petros...
Yes, I was quite aware that King Harry (to be accurate - the actor portraying Harry...) was not only channeling the Bard, but that the historical Henry V did not really speak in iambic pentameter...
Petros wrote:Tears on your cheeks? quoting Shakespeare too...you take this way too seriously. It is entertainment folks.
And Hey! If we drive Tercel Wagons, is it not quite evident that we do not take life very seriously already?
And I add (while ignoring slings and arrows)... :
As I sat, with chest heaving, tears streaming, and thoughts straining:
"And gentlemen and gentlewomen the world now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their life-hoods cheap whiles any speaks
That were not here with us upon
The Cardinals' and Saint Louis' day."
Preceding with apologies to W. Shakespeare and King Harry (the latter whether historical or merely conceptual).
What can I add, but with the memories and shouts of my youth: woW - wOW - WOW ! To add to Nehrlich's poem:
" With any luck I shall be longer than expected
and then, before you call me home
there still is Venice, and after that? "
Well, Herbert - There is St. Louis on Friday, October 28th, 2011 !
