85' 5spd hatch project.
Re: 85' 5spd hatch project.
c0z, finished a 4a-fe swap a little bit ago, I wish he'd post up some pics soon, because that would answer alot of basic questions. The cutting of the firewall was sure to happen, but the engine sitting up higher was news to me... I should have known that seeing as the 4age needs hood mods to fit. Then that go's right bak to c0z's swap, he never mentioned the hood. I guess I could look at the 4a/ac, it's supposed to get between 78-90hp. I guess I just like the idea of getting a jis sr5 4AF engine if I couldn't find one around here. They have some basic numbers wrong, one page says 1.6l and this one says 3.0.http://jisautoengine.com/to88cosr54af.html

That's an obvious misprint, it's not a 3.0L V6 with 12 valves. A former member, FH_Bible swapped in a 5af, which is the 1.5L version of the 4af. There's a lot of variation on what is posted online about the power output figures. Per Toyota brochure information, the 4ac produced either 70 HP or 74 HP. Better than the 3ac, but not quite a 4af. There are many different ways of getting more power, if you have the motivation to do so. 83toybeater also did a 4afe swap so theres a bit of info there too. I've driven cars with these engines, the power difference is very noticeable.

Sorry this is a bit late, But ya thats my house. Its an old masonic temple 4200sqft! now up for sale...
You guys have really Helped me out with my build, I've been in a stand still with no job to finish my projects. I recently landed a machine shop position, and found some one with an engine. I hope to have a good solid plan shortly!

Re: 5spd fwd transmission?
.....there's an '87 on http://www.autotrader.com/Petros wrote:Toyota did something similar, they put the 4age into the transverse engine fwd hatch back body, called it the FX-16. It was light weight, powerful and fast. Not a lot of them around.
....looks like in Nevada. Low mileage...well put together. If it was closer...it would be what I was looking for...fast...good handling...decent mpg.
