loose feeling in LHF continual issue

Hello my tool wrenching friends,

I was rotating my tyres just the other day and noticed that the front left wheel (the one that continually vibrates around corners) has about 5mm play where the studs come out of the disk face. Like the holes have been worn because of free play? and lugs are slopping around in them.

Is this usual? and what maybe the fixish? perhaps this is causing the worn CV type feeling I get when stress is applied to this wheel whilst in transit.

If you're just talking about play between the rotor and studs, that's normal. My originals had that, and the new pair I installed last year were the same. The rotors center on the hub, and they're clamped in place by the wheel and lug nuts. As far as the finish on the rotor, I don't see anything in your photo that should be causing the symptoms you describe.

From your description, it sounds like you have either a bad outer CV or wheel bearing.

The studs are mounted in the hub, not the rotor, but they should not move around in the hub. The rotor will flop around though.

if theres in-out movement, might be time for new wheel bearings.

thanks guys, I'm thinking of getting the whole front end pulled down bit by bit. before I pay the $400 they're asking for a reconditioned steering rack. Still having problems getting all the parts. perhaps just handing it to some experts with the cheque book open
