A/C compressor not engaging

Post by thebigbread »

ok, its 95 degrees & 80% humidity outside. needless to say, i want to get my A/C working. but it seems like the compressor isnt engaging. when the a/c is off, the compressor spins slowly (about once every 2 seconds) wether on, off or econo mode. any suggestions? the fan blows, but it just blows hot air.

You could put +12V to the clutch to see if it's that.

ive heard that magnetic clutch is a common problem. my dad says that it may be low on refrigerant, and thats why its not engaging. hmm.. ill test the clutch then the R12 pressure.

Check the sight glass? If you see white...bubbles...it's low. Of course you won't see much if the clutch doesn't engage. You might have lost most R12?

Mine is low but it will cool some...but I don't run it much at all.
