adjusting valves
Ok, how do you guys adjust your valves , engine running or off. after many times adjusting them i still have some ticking. The Mailman
Writeup in the repair section.
Answer...it ain't easy.
One source of noise in the valve area is the fuel pump.
I think they will tick some even if adjusted right....while hydraulics will self adjust to make no noise.

Have you ever turned around and checked them hot to see if they were in range? Sure would be easier.keith wrote:I do mine cold, .007" intake and .011 exhaust. With the engine TDC on #1, do the first, 2nd 4th and 6th valves. Then TDC #4 do 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 8th valves.
I tried adjusting valves with the engine running once...ended up with a flattened leaf on the feeler gauge

I do mine warm, engine off. Every time I did it cold as my manual says, I get ticking no matter how many times I recheck. I do it with engine warm and get quiet!

I'll be a dimwitted dummy...the FSM does say COLD. I used my other manuals which specify HOT.keith wrote:I use the procedure in the FSM, I don't go back and check hot. If the FSM said to do it hot, I would.
