Writeup in the repair section.

Answer...it ain't easy.

One source of noise in the valve area is the fuel pump.

I think they will tick some even if adjusted right....while hydraulics will self adjust to make no noise.

I do mine cold, .007" intake and .011 exhaust. With the engine TDC on #1, do the first, 2nd 4th and 6th valves. Then TDC #4 do 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 8th valves.

Have you ever turned around and checked them hot to see if they were in range? Sure would be easier.

I tried adjusting valves with the engine running once...ended up with a flattened leaf on the feeler gauge

I use the procedure in the FSM, I don't go back and check hot. If the FSM said to do it hot, I would.

I do mine warm, engine off. Every time I did it cold as my manual says, I get ticking no matter how many times I recheck. I do it with engine warm and get quiet!

I'll be a dimwitted dummy...the FSM does say COLD. I used my other manuals which specify HOT.

I'd rather have a little ticking than a burned valve, but then I worked around jet engines for 20 years do I don't hear the ticking so good anymore.
