I'm quite keen to get a early USA Grill
similar to this

There are two grill styles used in north america. One was for 83-86 and is the style you pictured in your first post. The second grill style was for 87-88 and is used with the composite head lights (as opposed to the earlier square ones), and is shaped different.Mattel wrote:Do I have it wrong-Are the grills the same with all years in the US? Brian yours is an '85
perhaps this was covered in another thread
I'd be ok with modifying the grill if I had to. I'd be even more interested in trading my lights with yours in addition to the grill.Mattel wrote:Thanks GTS
I'd like to take you up on that offer. But I'm not sure unless you have 87-88 Composite headlights on your car wether we would have compatibal grills as all Australian cars had the composite lights and I have noticed in the top pic.. (off the French noticeboard) that the grill which is prob off an USA spec 83-86 doesn't quite fit with the composite headlignts
I'm happy to customise yours to fit mine. but I'm not sure if you would be happy to do the same at your end?
Cheers,
Matt
Sure, I'll take some pics of the front end of my car for you. If you're not happy with the grill, I don't mind going to a wrecker for one. Also, I think its the bulbs, not the enclosures, that angle the light (with H4's anyhow). If this is the case, and you would be interested in trading lights too, let me know.Mattel wrote:GTS
Actually the just noticed Oz spec grill (as on this fine specimen) is diferent again than our french friends.
I will have to go to a wrecking yard soon and look for some parts. I know that some of you guys are after rear belts, lights and clear corners.
Actually our headlights will point into oncoming ddrivers faces in the USA and Canada as we drive on the left and our headlights are angled likewise. I think you may need french healights.
I will take some pics of the front of my car and post them to you. If you could do the same? I will be going to Japan in a week, I'd love to see what I could pick up over there in the yards.
I've got know problem repainting a grill if thats all thats needed rather than you having to go out and buy one.. Saying that... if anyone finds an 87-88 grill please contact.
It's the lenses that determine the light cutoff, and there's a huge difference between RHD and LHD light patterns. Even with the aftermarket H4 sealed-beam replacements, there are RHD and LHD models, depending on your market,GTSSportCoupe wrote:

OK, I stand corrected.neonsport wrote:It's the lenses that determine the light cutoff, and there's a huge difference between RHD and LHD light patterns. Even with the aftermarket H4 sealed-beam replacements, there are RHD and LHD models, depending on your market,GTSSportCoupe wrote:

Well actually, you were part right, along with the lens, there are diffusers in the housing and the bulb that direct the low beam the the right part of the lens. The one in the bulb is that little spoon shaped shield around the low beam.GTSSportCoupe wrote:OK, I stand corrected.neonsport wrote:It's the lenses that determine the light cutoff, and there's a huge difference between RHD and LHD light patterns.
