Re: JET - 2-way filter/valve??

Thanks Luke, David and Mark, After removing the little metal cup and taping the two halves back together, it allowed some air through both ways. I put it back on and drove with it today. I can’t say that I was able to tell a difference, ran/runs fine. I just found it plugged and thought U should try...

Re: Running warm - multiple bad OEM t-stats??

Hey Luke, You’re better wrenching than me, but I would suspect low coolant levels or an air pocket. If nothing else, pull the thermostat and see how it does. Not ideal, but might help trouble shoot. I noticed my gauge runs “hotter” when I’m running the heat/blower, but it’s an electric issue I suspe...

Re: after many years, I'm finally back in the T4 game

Good to hear David, It sounds like the temp sending unit (in the radiator) needs replaced. However, I would start by unplugging the fan sensor and just let it run, then put some miles on the car and watch for head gasket issues (milky oil, “washed” spark plug/cylinder, bubbles in the coolant). I put...

Re: JET - 2-way filter/valve??

I carefully cut the “valve” in half. There appears to be a “cork” diaphragm on one side and I see some additional “cork” on the other side, once I removed the little metal cup. With it in the center (no hole, I made that) it would move no air. Once removed, I can blow air through it. I will likely t...

Re: JET - 2-way filter/valve??

The diagram (pic) indicates there should be air flow both ways, but it should be slightly less from dark to light (based on the indicated “cloud”)? I will likely take one apart, it seems there is a filter of some type included as well.

JET - 2-way filter/valve??

Hey friends, The Rusty Frog is still my daily driver and doing fine. I am however, trying to improve my fuel mileage (21 mpg). From yhe FSM trouble shooting guide, I have found the JET to be plugged, moving no air either direction. I have no expectation that this will solve my issue, but was curious...

Re: Front wheel hubs/bearings

Cade,

I can’t say for sure, but I doubt the whole assembly can be found new. You can get the bearings and then remove the hub assembly. Take hub assembly and new bearings to a machine shop and they should be able to take it from there.

Re: carb fuel level still too high

Hey David, It sounds like you went about things properly. If the fuel level is still too high, pop the top off the carb and adjust the float further from air horn (when inverted) so the level adjust down. I had to adjust mine a few times to get the level where desired. Based on the FU-2 Troubleshoot...

Re: Some basic carb cleaning and rebuild info

Hey David, Larry hasn’t been on the site in nearly six months unfortunately. I have used Berryman Chen Dip in the past and found it to work well. Again, if you’re “kitting” the carb, it tears down so that everything is available to spray, etc. https://www.autozone.com/fuel-and-engine-cleaners-additi...

Re: what kind of cleaner to use during carb rebuild?

David,

Soaking is good, but compressed air and the correct “carb cleaning” tools are what’s needed. If cleaning/re-building, just make sure to ream all the small/tiny holes, ports, etc.
