Re: Unidentified broken object from transmission

No help on the “pieces”. If the car shifts ok, I would suspect the problem has more to do with the detents. I believe detents are usually spring-loaded “balls” (or similar rounded end) that basically provide resistance to keep the transmission in gear. It could also be that there is wear allowing th...

Re: Front Coil Springs

Imaani83, The 81043 likely gives 1.5-2.0 inches lift. I have had little/no associated problems. I did replace the driver’s side CV shaft, BUT I haven’t touched the passenger side and likely have 80k miles on the lift (and possibly another 86k miles that was on the car when purchased?). The ball join...

I don’t remember if I removed it or ?? It does look like they might “pop” off, I’m not sure what keeps the plastic wings on.

Re: SR5 Hatch Handle Wing Knob Removal

I might have one, I’ll check the parts car pile this weekend. And, I could be wrong. If yours is broken, there’s not much to lose in trying.

Re: Going to the scrapyard, what should I take?

Gabriel, I would want to test the transmission some, but that’s the biggie for me. Obviously, the clinometer if there, drivers door regulator. TVSV and other vac related parts as well as fuses, relays, etc. I would also grab the two cast iron pieces that help stabilize the transmission and engine to...

Re: Front Coil Springs

It would appear the end had broken off? I’ve rebuilt with Moog 81043 which gives lift and rides a little harsher, but they’ve held up. They should have a lighter spring that would more closely resemble stock characteristics.

Super Tercel guru! He would answer any questions I had when I got into my transmission. I really hope to make it to the PNW sometime.

Re: SR5 Hatch Handle Wing Knob Removal

theaterat,

I’ve always assumed those were “single piece” handles and they would be swapped as a unit. However, I’ve never tried and can’t confirm.

Unanswered topics

Hey all, I’m embarrassed to admit, I wan’t aware of or using the “unanswered topics” tab. I always use the “new topics” tab to stay caught up, but had ignored the unanswered topics. It’s a great tab to make sure everyone gets a response and/or friendly welcome. For us old timers, it’s good accountab...

Sorry for the late reply, but Robert has a great list. It may be linked under the “short cuts”. If not, I need to add it. Locate BB is who I used and most are still available.

Re: A person generously let me have a transmission

Cari, I would carefully clean it up some and spin the input shaft while watching the output shaft. See if it shifts ok, including 4WD. Listen for loud bearings and/or anything not buttery smooth. Not the best test, but about all you can do presently. Did the fella say why he parked it? if no problem...
