Re: Clutch Chatter/Vibration

Make sure you have gone through the clutch adjustment properly.

Re: after many years, I'm finally back in the T4 game

It’s more fun to wrench on a car that was designed to be repaired by “shade tree” mechanics.

Re: clutch installation questions

Pilot bearing should be fine. Clutch disc in? correct side out (in the FSM)? did you use an alinement tool?

When you install the PP, there is resistance due to the PP force on the clutch plate as well. That may be part of what you were noticing.

Re: clutch installation questions

I believe flush with the flywheel center should be fine.

Re: Do I need to be able to remove all filler plugs?

I typically try to follow the FSM and it recommends filling from the back passenger side plug (a pain to access). I don’t know that it makes a big difference, BUT, you should back out the bolt on the bottom 7-8 turns as directed to drain/fill the rearmost compartment in the transmission. The oil doe...

Re: Clutch Chatter/Vibration

Great to hear! The idle can be pretty finnicky, but not a huge deal most times.

Yes, the 4WD shifter seal isn’t bad. Now, I have fought getting the cast iron linkage off. Check the FSM, some good info. Good luck!

Re: Engine swap

Good golly, over a decade between posts?,

Are you still in AK? Let us know, as that will make a difference. I believe there is one available in MI right now, otherwise salvage yards are your friend. Why not rebuild your current engine?

Re: after many years, I'm finally back in the T4 game

The only thing possibly damaged would be the pilot bearing, which is getting replaced anyhow. Should work fine.

Re: Amazing 1984 Tercel Rally Build by Verve Racing

This is the Tercel I was telling you about, Richard’s. The RT4 was 4age swapped, but he has another “clean” Tercel that is super charged that we took around the block a couple of years ago. Keegan in the big lincoln (now sold) is part of the Midwest crew and always under the hood. He is wrapping up ...

Re: Amazing 1984 Tercel Rally Build by Verve Racing

Richard didn’t post much, but I will see what I can find. For typical driving, no problems. Both of these were rolled on racetracks, really pushing the limit. Larry McGrath did a beautiful 4age swap up north. I haven’t seen him post lately, but he shared quite a few pics.

Re: find me a tercel 4x4 on the east coast!

The second link is for a rust free driver that needs a catalytic converter, but includes another Tercel that needs work AND a “parts” car (3 cars total).

The first link is for an automatic which is less common, but less desired by most and IMO way out of line on the $$.

Re: Amazing 1984 Tercel Rally Build by Verve Racing

That’s Steve Olona, awesome build out of Colorado. There is a fellow in Manhattan, Kansas that was USAC racing a super-charged Tercel, but I honestly think he rolled his as well.
