Re: Roof basket/roof rack questions.

AbletobeCain,

I would be curious if you would share your change in mpg due to the baskets/racks. I prefer the look, but haven't had a real need, so I haven't pursued this yet. I expect that to change, but I'm not certain I want the extra drag of the basket all the time.

S/T,

I can't say I have seen that on mine, but it's probably there. Yes, it looks like a typical vent with the loose fitting top that is pinched to keep it on.

2985Tercel,

I’m on pages 4 and 5 of the linked discussion. So far, I have been very pleased with the Amsoil product I referenced.

Re: Please Read Before Posting

You are very welcome. My wife struggles to understand my car hobby as (like most folks), it can stay terribly busy. But, I take joy in driving the Tercel and working on our other cars, most days.

Re: Rear brakes doesnt work

If this was your first time doing brakes did you do one side first and use other side as a guide to make sure you put it together right? Maybe you need to bleed the system. The hand brake is simply a cable setting the brake physically, has nothing to do with the wheel cylinder, etc. Did you bleed b...

S/T,

If you look under the "General stickies library of links" in the General tab, the second heading is "Modifications" and includes one of the definitive discussions on the different lifts used on these cars.

Re: Fresh Weber and head replacement - oil weaping from exhaust?

I was busy the last few days and forgot to take a pic. I need to read the thread all over again and see what could've happened. It totally skipped my mind that I had a similar situation awhile back. I don't remember where I posted it here, but one of the wrist pins that hold the piston on the conne...

I would get the timing set with a light before I tried tuning the carb.

Re: removing belts issues

Great pics S/T,

I assume the part on the bolt on the pulley side of the slide moves freely? If so, that would snug up on the slide and make adjustment impossible w/o loosening. Again, great pics and thanks for taking the time.

Re: Looking at buying a 1985 tercel sr5 w/ 6 speed manual

Yota, I would be more concerned about rust damage to the "frame" members and locations where the suspension connects to the sub-frame. Without a pic, it is difficult to provide an opinion on the source of the oil. The fact that somebody is "flipping" it would be strike one for me. But heck, I purcha...

Re: In search of ac belt tensioner

Franklin, I will try to get a pic, looked at it last night, but I don't know how helpful a pic will be while installed. Sinusoidal Tendencies has a nearby thread where he just removed his to get the timing cover off, he may be able to get a good pic for you. And better yet, if ArchinStL still has it...

Re: removing belts issues

loosening the nut on the pulley worked. and i think i would recommend that instead of banging on it with anything to prevent damaging it. was easy enough to loosen. And for my purpose of taking the timing cover off i actually needed to remove it anyways to get to the bolt on the cover. S/T, I'm gla...

Re: removing belts issues

S/T,

If I’m seeing it correctly, the vertical bolt screws through the tensioner “base” and pulls it up to tighten. If the bolt is coming out as you loosen, the “base” must be hung up some on the slide. You should be able to tap it down to free the A/C belt.
