'87 4WD Tercel, 160K in Kansas City

Hey, I'm parting ways with my beloved wagon. It needs another transmission, but is still drivable now. I am the second owner, and have some of its service history. Timing belt was done at 132K. It runs perfectly. Suspension was replaced two years ago. Brake lines replaced two years ago. Brakes ...

1987 Tercel 4WD w/160K, T-Belt@132K

Hey, I think I'm finally parting ways with my Tercel. I'm the second owner, and I've had it since 2005 or '06. It's been everything you already know it is -- never not started, brilliant simple effective 4WD, most reliable thing I've ever owned (better than a Leica in my photographer-centered take ...

1987 1/2 vs. 1988 4wd wagon

Hey-

I'd like to buy an original Toyota service manual for my 1987 1/2 (i think) 4wd wagon. I can't find one, but i have found a 1988 manual. Are there substantial differences between the models? Thanks!

hmm...

well, the pins holding in the third brake light are identical to all of the ones holding the rest of the inner hatch cover, except that they're not counter-sunk, and i don't see any place to poke in a ballpoint to release them. how do you remove those things? i ripped one out with a pair of pliars ...

hatch repair...?

hey hey-

the hatch on my 87 1/2 sr5 4wd is broken. not sure exactly what i mean either --i took the car to a locksmith who told me that the lock/tumbler is fine, but that some part of the release mechanism is broken. the hatch is closed and locked -- any ideas on how to take it apart from the ...

6 spd transmission needed for 87

any help or tips? the car won't hold first gear...pops out about every other time. it would be great if someone said, "aw that's just yer clutch", but that's doubtful. anyway, any help finding a used/rebuilt 6spd standard for an 87 4wd would be great.

Is mountain fuel different? Also, I didn't go up very high into the mountains, but i was surprised that the car ran great without adjusting the carb. Which i thought might be an issue (i don't know jack about carbs), i've only ever had fuel injection before this Tercel.

I might try the Seafoam ...

MPG drop

Hey-

just found this site and...kick butt! i'll sift through the forums to avoid asking redundant questions as much as possible. so:

last summer i got an 87 with, dig it, 98K miles on it (now at 114K). one owner, the stereotypical 'little old lady'. it's a 6 spd in very nice shape, but no sunroof ...
