Very sluggish, hard to go above 65..suggestions?
I don't like to make these "spoon feed me" posts, but I am kind of stumped here. Recently I messed with my timing, adjusted it very slightly by sight and sound and I seemed to have lost power afterwards. I tried to move it back but knew it was off and had to go to work so off I go. I could barely ...

Re: New to forum 1984 SR5 4x4 wagon
Well then it looks like we are going to need to start one! I've been wanting to have a reason to silk screen some sort of Tercel inspired t-shirt since I got my '86, and have all the supplies needed to do it. If things progress further I say we should get some sort of off road day trip organized.

Re: New to forum 1984 SR5 4x4 wagon
Was this the one on Portland craigslist in Oregon City/Milwaukie area? I'm also in the 300k+ club currently at 318k and rolling. There should be a Tercel club organized in the Portland area, I already know of 2-3 people personally that have them as well that would be game.

Re: Removing climate controls
Mine was like that when I bought it, so not sure what the cause was. I'll take it apart soon and figure it out once I get some other stuff taken care of first.

Re: Removing climate controls
For what reason are you removing your climate control stuff? The cable that controls my heater core valve seems to be disconnected somewhere, it wasn't connected at the valve itself, I still have no movement, though, regardless of it is connected to the valve. So I am guessing it has come apart ...

Re: My $550 '86 4x4 wagon
That is an awesome idea dredge! I will definitely have to do that for the time being. KZ750, I would love to own any of the syncro VW's, Vanagon, Golf, Passat, etc.. but yea generally they are wayyy out of my price range. There werent very many Jetta syncros made, I found a production numbers sheet ...

Re: Quit running while driving, sounds different when cranke
Thank you xirdneh, the website is kind of confusing, but after punching in the part number into the search bar they do still have it in stock. Prices are a couple bucks higher but definitely worth it for something that is probably soon going to be obsolete.

Re: How do i hook up Cruise control cable?
I literally just got done removing the cruise control module and cable from the engine bay, the cable runs from the box and there is a little ball chain on the end of the cable that clips onto the bell crank on the carb right next to the throttle cable.

Re: Quit running while driving, sounds different when cranke
Got all my oem quality parts on their way, was going to pick them up locally but had some money in my paypal account so I decided to use it to get the stuff from Autohausaz, and they have free shipping. Should be here monday or tuesday, I've never been fond of using NAPA, O'Reillys, etc for sourcing ...

Re: Quit running while driving, sounds different when cranke
There is a sticker on the core support that says the last timing belt change was at 241k, so it was well over due for a change, my guess is that they didn't change the tensioner. If the tensioner was also replaced at that time I find it quite surprising that the timing belt lasted longer (haha well ...

Yep, tensioner seized and caused the belt to snap!

Re: Quit running while driving, sounds different when cranke
Timing belt was my first guess because of the seeming lack of compression, just about to tow it back to the house here shortly, thanks for the quick input. These aren't interference motors right?

Quit running while driving, sounds different when cranked?
I am currently on the side of the road waiting for help. Not even a mile from my house it just stopped running, now when I try to start it it sounds higher pitched and seems to spin faster? It's currently hard to tell because I don't have anyone currently to turn the key while I watch what's ...
