Removing climate controls

Post by irowiki »

I searched and searched, but if a thread exists you can point me there.

How do you get the climate controls out? I have all the cables disconnected, the right side of the panel wants to come out, but the left side acts like there's too much tension on the electrical plugs.

it's been a while since the last time i did it but i don't remember needing any special trick. just make sure all the screws are out, the cables are disconnected and pulled through as far as they can go so they aren't hanging up on anything, disconnect the plug for the fan switch, and pull it out.

Ah, I couldn't figure out the fan switch plug. It was dark and I was using a flashlight  will try again tomorrow

For what reason are you removing your climate control stuff? The cable that controls my heater core valve seems to be disconnected somewhere, it wasn't connected at the valve itself, I still have no movement, though, regardless of it is connected to the valve. So I am guessing it has come apart inside the dash somewhere, maybe take a picture while you are in there if you haven't finished up what you are doing? ..just so I can have an idea inside my head of what I am getting into.

was the lever getting hard to move before it went bad
that is usually the case
working the lever when it is too tight causes the metal to get soft from flexing too much and it breaks
I took one apart today that had that problem
i replaced it with a spare

when i get a chance i plan to fix the lever somehow
it is steel that is about .05" thick
i might sandwich the break with two pieces of steel and solder it back together
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Mine was like that when I bought it, so not sure what the cause was. I'll take it apart soon and figure it out once I get some other stuff taken care of first.

That happened to my wagon. The lever was getting stiff and it bent slightly, making it even harder to move. I forced it and it broke. A guy I know welded it for me and it works fine now. Trying to re-hookup and re-adjust all the levers/cables/dampers was a pain.
