If the Clutch Isnt working Would that keep the Shifter from Shifting? how can i tell if it is a clutch issue cuz i want to make takeing the transmission out a last resort.

is there something i can use instead of a Transmission jack to lower the transmssion out. Since I only plan on doing this once and dont want ot spend the 200-400 dollars on one if its only gonna get useed ever once inwhile

while i cast cleaning it out i found this in the shifter compartment and wanted to know if you had any idea what it was and if it was important. it feels like its platic or rubber.

I have a 83 tercel sr5. The shifter is stuck in neutral and im not sure why it would be. I have been told it was something to do with bushings and the linkage but im not sure were to find them to check them. and the shfter wont even move its like its stuck.
