theres no difference in tuning and upgradeability between SDS and megasquirt... the SDS is quite alot easier to use... and to remain on teh cheap with megasquirt you have to build it yourself

honestly for the cost of either , and including the custom building time and everything... why not just ...

yeah the 4m/5m cressida's were 4 bolt, the 7m ones were 5 bolt

but all wagons were straight axle

and a point that was brought up before the 4age I'm lookin at is 140hp (rated)... but driving waterpump, alternator, p/s pump, and hopefully an A/C pump ... probably be in the "kinda" safe 100hp range ...

WOOO go group2! hehehe... i ran a group2 car in Northern BC in 96/97 (1980 volvo 4dr)

bracing - strip the interior weld up any seams you can see ... when you install the cage, brace to the front and rear suspension towers too (and across) also either link the two subframes underneath or in the ...

I gotta disagree with you there, older drivetrains are generally far more durable than newer ones because they are constantly cutting corners for profit. that is why there is such demand for older parts, such as engines, trannys, Tx case and axles.

What kills the drivetrains is popping the clutch ...

Neat! I've often thought of trying out a TSD rally here on Vancouver Island.

to it!!!!! it's a blast... I was in the Storm the Island Rally in 05 (the red delta88 if you caught the Shaw coverage) ... we had a camera on a tripod in the car... but found out half way through the rally that it's ...

yeah a TDI to smaller sammy parts grafted in would be slick

although I wouldn't attempt a TDI with the stock trans/driveline even the higher reving torque from a 140hp 4age is really pushing it

my 3a comment was in relation to the post that started this whole thread....

I don't know about the 4ac trans bolting right to the wagons 3a.. but the AE Chassis RWD corolla's did have a 3a offering in them too... see if the trans and the bell housing are the same... if they are then the trans from ...

yeah I'm a fabricator by obsession and a Mechanic by trade (currently working for toyota :D )

I think honestly I'd really like to try the idea I threw up above there first... and if (more like when) I decide I want more I would go towards grafting toyota solid axles and a proper RWD trans and T ...

for those considering the Paseo/87+ tercel front brake swap

go straight to the AE92 Corolla front discs, they are a little thicker, a little bigger in diameter and use the same caliper. MASSIVE improvement on 87+ tercels(so if you were gonna use the tercel/paseo discs, get a little better for same ...

I don't remeber if its the same 5spd, but the ae corolla chassis came with the the 3a too

as for the rear axle... you'll have to find a few parts, but a 1st gen supra axle .. with a 3rd gen supra N/A LSD rear diff in it should do the trick

but then your running into the issue of having 2 ...

I'm sure it's been said somewhere in this thread.. but I probably missed it... the BIGGEST problem with converting to RWD /4wd configuration is that the front axles are always driven by the differential before the shaft to the rear axle even knows what';s going on.

the "easiest" way to do this is ...

Differences I'm aware of:

83-84, and 85-88 had different transmissions and differential ratios.

83-86, and 87-88 had different front grill/headlight setups.

83-84 had inclinometer in SR5 version.

Paint and interior schemes changed through the years.

Available options may have changed through ...
