Agreed with the other lads. Clean and tighten all connections for the battery and starter.

Ran low on oil is my guess. That part sits at the highest point in the trans so it's the first to be affected by low gear oil. Others here have more experience with this than I do though so we'll see what they say.

I have only removed and reinstalled the trans and diff together a number of times, but I use a big rolling jack to do so. I'd probably look at separating the trans and diff if I were in a different working situation.

I agree that sounds like the input shaft bearing. I think there are two on this trans, one that is accessed from the outside and one you can only access by disassembling the trans.
