Hi
I own a 1985 Toyota Tercel 4x4 DLX and having a hard time finding wiper blades that work with the "Bayonet" wiper arm. I been told the since the car is so old that I have to buy a adapter kit for each arm that screws into the 2 small(very small) holes on the wiper arm. Then I can use any after market wiper blades. If this is true where can I find this adapter ? I anyone has any clue about this could you point me in the right direction.
I have bought two types of wiper blades and after about a month they broke right at the bayonet arm ( by the two small holes).
Thanks Bill

Re: Bayonet wiper arm
New wiper blades should come with the proper adapter for our cars. There is usually a chart that lists the applications of each wiper at any retailer, even Wal-Mart. I have never had a problem finding a replacement that works. Also, the bracket that is included that screws into the arm is usually metal. I hope that helps.

Re: Bayonet wiper arm
I have never had any issues with new wipers, I install them on most of the project tercels I have had and never had an issue with the wipers on my daily driver '84 Tercel4wd. The end of the arm has a current style wiper mount as far as I know, and as Marlinh points out, most of the blades that includes the arm mounting adapters if necessary. Where are you located? perhaps you should try a better equipped store.

ditto the above comments.
another cheaper option that i prefer is to keep the frame of the wiper and just replace the rubber 'blades' (the part that actually does the wiping). it's about 1/3 the price, and there's no need to replace the wiper frame unless its been damaged. then you can keep using your old wipers without fiddling with adapters, AND you save money each time you replace the blades.

It's getting harder to find wiper refills only. Apparently most cars nowadays have non-replaceable rubber parts.
Of all of the AutoZones in the STL Metro area, (40!), only a few keep them in stock, and then only 1 per length.
I put 18" blades on Goldie when I got her, so buy the N19R size and cut them down.

Re: Bayonet wiper arm
tom, you are right that most wiper frames are designed to have non-replaceable blades now...but i haven't let that stop me. i use needle nose pliers to open up the frame, trim the new blade to match the length of the old one, put it in the frame, and close the fingers of the frame on it.
i never looked for blade refills before, i just stumbled across them at canadian tire and couldn't believe the price difference. i will keep my eyes peeled to see how many other stores up here stock them.
