Not bad looking. Hood emblem? Part of factory rack missing.

i think tom mentioned that the rare hood ornament was a dealer thing. weird that part of the roof racks are missing. looks pretty clean overall.

I like some of the quirky stuff some of these cars came with but the hood ornament dosen't do it for me!

that is a great price, low miles too. they do not use salt in south carolina because they rarely get freezing weather, so the body should be in good shape.
That is almost worth the trip out there to drive back. hummm, naw, too busy right now.

Looks like it's reposted for $700. Trans stuck in third.

the ad seems absurd now: "dependable, runs, great gas saver...only problem is it's stuck in 3rd gear." i wouldn't call a car stuck in 3rd dependable or a gas saver. i suppose the engine runs but i wouldn't say the whole vehicle does.

Re: 85 SR5 Winnsboro $1000, now $700
that would be a long slow drive to get it 2500 miles home in 3rd gear. a bit chilly this time of year as well. could be an easy fix, or it could need a new transmission. Best thing to do would be to take a good transmission out there, swap it out and than drive it home. A week long trip at least, presuming nothing else needs to be fixed (which is almost always the case despite the owners protestations that the car is otherwise "good").
lets see how that would work out: $220 flight (might be able to take a stripped spare trans as "luggage" if under 50 lbs), misc. local transportation: $75, new clutch, oil change, filters, misc other parts $250, fuel for trip home $350, could "couchsurf" to save money on way home, weeks worth of "road" food and misc expense, $300.
So that adds up to aout $1200 to get it here, plus several days to clean it up and fix all the other minor issues I would find on the trip back. Local market value, perhaps $2900. so net gain would be about $1100 if you could buy it for $500, and willing to commit a week to it. If I did not have too much to do it might be a fun trip. but I can not afford to take a week off right now. But it is worth doing.
I noticed it has a weber carb on it, so it might not pass an emissions inspection or test if your state still requires that. It would be good to sell in this state, where it is exempt from emissions, and they are still very popular cars here.

Hmmm... i have family in SC, and it'd only be a 2 day drive back to VT, but a transmission stuck in 3rd? What can be the cause and what could be a fix? Aside from just replacing the transmission? I'd really love a second one of these cars, love the blue too. I have an email in to him about it, we'll see what he says.

Re: 85 SR5 Winnsboro $1000, now $700
could be just the linkage, easy fix. Or it could be the shift forks became so worn they popped out of place, or broke off. which means taking the trans apart. hopefully nothing broke off and chewed up the trans. Best to count on replacing it if you want to get it home, and than see about fix the original trans at your leisure.
