I am new to the forum and a new Tercel SR5 owner. I have wanted one for a very long time and have been hunting for one and found one in Shiprock, NM. It's a 1984 and she's a beauty. I drove it home to Lawrence, Kansas a few weeks ago. She road like a champ, but there is a slight clunking noise when shifting. Before making the 600 trek. My Dad took it to a mechanic and put it up on a lift. The mechanic noticed that one of the transmission brackets was broken. He felt it was safe to drive, so I took it home. Now I'm looking to find that part. I've hunted around the forum and thankful for the helpful advise on schematics and where to get parts, the problem is, I'm not sure what part I am looking for. I'm not the best car mechanic, but I'm planning on learning how to take care of this baby. I was hoping that somebody might point me in the right direction of figuring out what part I'm looking for?
Thanks,
Nick
I posted a picture of my tercel in the new member section.

Shiprock NM eh? That's about an hour from me! How'd you find the wagon, and how much did you pay, if I may ask?
Edit: Is your wagon white? Looks really close to one we photographed in Farmington this summer.

nick, i think a more common term for what you're talking about is a mount. both the engine and transmission have mounts. they're like an ice cream sandwich but with metal on the outside and a big slab of rubber on the inside. they attach the engine and trans to the car but the thick rubber helps prevent clunks and vibrations from passing from the engine and trans to the car. the rubber can split apart or separate from the metal portions. jack up a front corner of your car and put a jack stand securely underneath, then slide under, take a look at the trans, and then find the mounts. i can't remember offhand where they are, as i've never had to remove a tercel trans...yet. fingers crossed i never need to. once you find the mounts, you can use a crowbar to pry the trans away from the mount. if you find any of them are split, replace it. not a big job, just a few nuts and maybe jacking the trans up a bit to make room.
i know i already mentioned the FAQ in your other post but i'll mention it again here since it touches on clunking when shifting. here's the link, see question #5.

Re: Transmission Bracket
Are you talking about the X-member that holds the trans mount or the mount itself?
I think the X-member is peculiar to the 4WD, whether AT or MT - not the same as for the 2WD (I think)..
See this link for info on OE mounts: https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=6478
Or - are you talking about the transmission stiffening plates (one on each side of the rear of the trans case)?

Re: Transmission Bracket
I have quite allot of parts to choose from right now in northern Nevada our local junkyard has two 4wd manuals one 4wd auto and one 2wd manual. When you are able to find the part that needs replacement i can go see if my local yard has a good one to choose from and send it your way.

The lnternet says that there is two pick&pull style junkyards in the bosie area that is the best source for one of these transmissions now. If your able to find one it must be model year 1885 to 1988 if you find one in a car model year 1983 or 1984 it won't work unless you replace the planetary gears in the rear axle.
Perhaps someone else on the forum can help a little further.
Start at a local wrecking yard and move out from there if you are unable to do this kind of work your self just find the transmission and then find someone to install it.
Good luck
DON'T go ask the employees at the wrecking yard if they have what you need go look yourself in my experience the yard employees are not helpful and tend to be rude.
