Cross-country parts relay system

I was wondering if there is any organized (or disorganized) system of members transporting parts from one part of the country to another, for example if they go on road trips and can pick up or drop off parts on the trip. I was thinking of larger items that are expensive to ship--motor, tranny, fender, hood etc.
