I'm hoping to find a carburetor from a known running Tercel Wagon. My carburetor has been rebuilt and tested but I can't get the car to idle because there's something wrong with the fuel mixture. Now I'm at the point where I'm done tinkering with the old carb and want to find a different one. If anyone in Portland or the surrounding area has a good carburetor they can part with please let me know. Or, if anyone knows how to properly tune these Aisan carburetors I'm all ears.
Thanks for your help,
Don

Re: WANTED: Working Carburetor
welcome to the list Don,
there are a lot of other issues that can cause idle problems that are not related to the carb. First of all make sure all your vacuum lines are routed correctly and none are leaking or hanging loose. A bad vac leak will not allow it to idle properly. There is a thread with the vac diagram and also in the FSM link.
There are three items in the emissions control system that can also act like a vac leak. The High altituded compensator (HAC) if your car is equipped with one, the Mixture control and the fuel cut-off solenoid in the carb. There are simple tests for these, check the FSM. And also the vac advance on the distributor can act like a leak if it is bad. if it is ruptured just remove the line and plug the line, it will not affect drivablity to remove it.
Also, make sure your ignition timing is set properly (I advise 10 deg BTDC rather than the factory 5 deg.) and you have strong spark, that can also make it not idle properly.
Good luck.

Re: WANTED: Working Carburetor
and oh yes, I have three extra carbs. I can rebuild one for you, test run it on my own car to make sure it runs proberly, and than ship it to you if you to install. But there is a good chance your problem is not in the carb. so check that out first before you waste anymore time with another carb.
