flared and widened front/ trophy truck style

Post by Swagon »

so ive been toying with the idea of getting spacers to stick out the front tires. add wrangler flares to the front and cut out the a few inches of the stock fenders. My issue currently is when i turn i only can get 1.5 turns out of the steering wheel until my massive tires hit the frame. pushing out the whole wheel a good 1 to 2 inches should solve this. i plan on getting a lot longer traveling coil and spring setup that i have quite figured out yet. i have a huge amount of ground clearance with the tires i have so lowering the motor is not an issue for me. There is several aspects that im trying to get together to finally finish this but ideas and thoughts would be great. The main use for my tercel is snow driving and the occasional off road. im not trying to flex it out on everything ( well at least not all the time :) ). ive almost got the rear completely done just need to add adjustable 4 link in the back. does anyone have dimensions of the front fender? or diagrams of the entire car dimensions?

sorry for the ramble ive just had these things running through my head and thought i would share.

my current setup if it helps is following.

front:
stock springs and strut with rubber coil inserts
extended top hat bolts with 1.2in spacers
trimmed inner fenders
front tires 215/75/15 wild country RVTs

Rear:
removed sway bar
removed ebrake bracket
front 99 cherokee springs
t bird shocks
rear tires 215/75/15 wild country RVTs

I've thought about doing something similar, I've got the same problem with the wheel hitting the frame. Not sure I'd trust a spacer more than an inch out, puts a lot of stress on the steering knuckle and bearing. As far as longer travel- synthdesign figured something out with an mr2 insert, but I haven't tried it myself. Even with a strut custom made for tons of travel you wont get that much more artuculation- the control arms and sway bar won't allow it. I'm trying to figure out something for the swaybar, the JK wranglers have an electronic disconnect in the middle of the bar, something like that would be killer on the tercel since we can't just take the bar off. That mixed with longer control arms would make a T4 a flexy little beast!

Even with the simple lift I've got my wagon will go further up an articulation ramp than a stock Wrangler- not bad as it is! Also do post pics if you box anything out, it would be pretty sweet!

I'm looking at doing this to mine minus the 215/75/15 tires.
1985 SR5 Custom, Lifted legs 3" rear 1" front, 205/70/15 shoes, Stock 1.5 heart all arteries cleaned.
