Anyone parting out 14inch rims or tires?

Post by mrmora »

I have an 87 Tercel 4WD wagon. On the vehicle right now are stock 13 inch wheels. I'm looking to get 14inch tires/rims with four lug bolt pattern, for my car. If anyone has some that they don't need, let me know and perhaps we can work something out!

best place to look is your local craig's list, it is the 100mm x 4 bolt pattern which is common to most modern domestic and import cars (all 4 lug toyota, honda, mazda, ford, dogde neon, etc). Also you have a local picknpull, they are another good place to look, sometimes you get lucky and get good tires with it.

I suppose I should update my location lol... I don't live in the Spokane area any longer. I have to say that I miss the picknpull that they had there... found some great parts for my car. Ya, I've been looking on Craigslist, but it seems that living in a small town has it's down falls. More than anything, I'm just trying to get the rims.

There are thousands of cars in your area that use the same bolt pattern, you need to find some one that is buying new wheels and wants to sell the old ones. You might also see if any of the local tire store (or tyre? depending on where you now live) and see if they have any used alloy wheels to sell (usually not as good a price as craig's list, but sometimes not bad).

In addition the list above, the 4 lug Volkswagen and BMW also use the 100mmx4 bolt pattern. Someone in your area just HAD to get those 17" wheels for their Beemer and left behind at the tire store a really nice set of BMW factory alloy 6x15 wheels just waiting for you to pick-up.

Well I'm located in Wenatchee now... it's about three hours to the east of Spokane. Well the hunt is on for the wheels... thanks for the advice Petros and dlb! The stock wheels on the Tercel are ok, but after reading post on this site of other Tercel owners upgrading to a larger wheel and being pleased with the results. I have since wanted to find larger wheels for mine.

I can't say I wouldn't put on some BMW 15" alloys if I had the chance to get at them cheaply. But when it comes to 14" wheels with a 4x100 bolt pattern, do the other measurements (hub size, etc) matter due to the Terc's wheels being lugcentric? Can I really just get any wheel that's 4x100? Seems too good to be true - I love having a car that's such a value to own.

Yes, the center hub is smaller than the honda, so you can put honda wheels on the Toyota, but not the other way since they need a larger center hub hole. I have honda wheels on mine now that came with a parts car I got when rebuilding my daughters CRX. the lugs hold and center the wheel just fine, not even sure why the adapter ring would be necessary.

Some really unusual cars might have an offset issue, but none that I have heard about.

You won't be able to get 15" 4 lug bmw wheels cheaply. Here in the US, the only 4 lug bmw wheels were 14 inchers. In Europe, 15 inch 4 lug "Euro weaves" were available. If you can find a set here, they go for close to a grand per set since they must have been shipped by a transplanted european.

I have run 14" bmw "bottlecaps" (originally came on my '84 325e) on my T4 for years with no complaints whatsoever. Better offset (35mm), fairly light, relatively easy to find tires for and they look like '80s wheels. They are not hub-centric (bmw hub is 57.1mm IIRC) but this is really not a factor since our T4s have studs. Troll CL and you should easily be able to pick up a set for under a Ben Frank.

I should ad that if your heart is set on 15 inchers, then second generation Miata wheels are an excellent choice. Very light, cheap, readily available and are even hub-centric to our cars. I picked up a near-perfect set for $100.

I'm not sure if you came across a thread I started, but I found a site that listed all makes and models of 4x100 rims. I believe I put a link at the bottom of the thread to their website. Maybe that'll help you narrow your choices down...

Is it normal to have a bear of a time getting 4 matching wheels out of a junkyard? I've only found one junkyard yet that even attempts to keep like wheels with like.

i haven't had much luck with wreckers and sets of wheels. i've had the best luck with craigslist and similar sites. by posting wanted ads i've managed to get several excellent sets of alloys, including tercel, MR2, and corolla all-trac wheels. all have been way cheaper than what the wreckers around here try to charge, too--the tercel alloys were free!

also, if you know of any nearby garages that specialize in drifting, you can likely get a cheap set of wheels from them. most of the kids here drift late 80's/early 90's corollas and nissan 240SXs but they usually upgrade to bigger, wider wheels so there is always a surplus of stock alloys kicking around those shops. both the stock corolla and 240SX wheels are 4 x 100mm and i think they're both 14".
