I want to swap the engine from an 86 FWD 5-speed wagon to an 86 FWD auto wagon.
I got two wagons.
The stick wagon is stuck in 2nd, but has a strong engine.
The automatic has a weak engine that burns oil, but the transmission is easier on my bad knees.
What are the differences between an 86 standard transmission engine and an 86 auto transmission engine?
What do I need to swap onto the engine going into the automatic car?
I know the 3AC automatic wagon is under-powered and all, but I still want to do it.

Re: engine swap - FWD 5-speed engine into auto trans
I do not think there are any issues, internally the engine is identical, I think it even uses the same cam shaft. You will have to remove the flywheel from the manual trans engine, and the pilot bearing. And than install the backing plate from the auto trans where the flywheel goes. Since you have both cars you can swap over any other differences. There might be a kick-down linkage on the throttle plate, it what causes the auto trans to down shift when you stomp on the accelerator, but that too should be an easy swap over.
