How hard is it to put the 86's door with its 3rd brake on the 84 which does not have a 3rd brake? And how much weight can I SAFELY, key word, SAFELY remove from the door? I want those bloody struts to last longer than 2 winters... Plus I want to reduce the weight overall.

You CAN replace the struts one at a time...just replace the weakest one...and be sure you don't pull the door down all the time on the weakest side.

You can use heater or radiator hose as a stiffener OVER the struts...can either put one on the weakest side over the end of the strut or split the hose and use wrapped elect tape after they are on there...need to get the length just right though.

But I also want that 3rd brake light and I also want that decal for the club. BTW, I owe $6 to GTS for that and please PM the address to send it Canadian to? I need to do that very soon.

I'm actually out of decals. :o :(

I'll consider doing another run, but this time I want everyone to pay ahead so I can ship everything out at once. It's too much work to ship one out a weekend over a few months (I'm a busy person).

Aren't your doors different colour? If so I would just swap the brake light. You would have to mount the mount by drilling or welding, but anyone who can do an engine swap can drill a couple holes! You can also change the glass without breaking it. It's not glued in.

Maybe I'm missing something, but in the past I've found that toyota doors unbolt with just a couple bolts on each side of the hinge? On an AE86 anyhow..

I'm not afraid of the 2 bolts. Not remotely. But I AM worried about wiring.

I don't ming the blue-grey difference, if it comes to it. I mean, my good friend and neighbor who lent me the engine hoist, gave instruction on how to fix some issues, and cheered me on has a 5-colored SR5 81 4wd Truck. lol.
I want NEW glass to be honest. I hate the circle-scratch effect in the sun/headlights. But I can't afford the $40 diagnosis I need to find out what part of my valvetrain is glitching and if my differential rotor-thingy is really dying. I have the problems narrowed down, but just need to know in specific what it is. Heck, today I failed emissions due to ignition and/or valving problems. Dunno why it decided to happen now. Beh.
Just watch it be the carburator. I need an excuse to buy a $410 part I can't afford. Ahhhhhh life... Well, hopefully that flooring job will be a go. We'll see.

I got sidetracked... AGAIN.. lol.
So I guess I need to know how hard the wiring is for the 3rd brake light. Heck, I could Gorilla Glue the bugger in if I had to, but wiring needs to look professional.

Another issue I also found today is that my rear wiper jet isn't jetting. Just dribbling. The other one worked great. Is there a 2ndary pump that might be fried, or is the nozzle just plugged?

hey guy...you just put an engine in the car...you need to be more specific other than ... " I need to find out what part of my valvetrain is glitching and if my differential rotor-thingy is really dying. I have the problems narrowed down, " ....that don't sound like MECHANIC TALK to me !!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

LOL.
Its just an issue of I don't know what in specific to trace it to, unfortunately. Besides that I've tried a few things. Replaced the fuel pump/filter, the dist cap and wires, plugs, and swapped the fuel tank trying to solve essentially the same problem, though each thing has helped a little bit. I would remove the head and all that, but I don't even want to get started on the complications of resetting the cam and all that. Besides... I can't even get the bloody valve-cover off! Oh well, what am I supposed to do. I dunno if I'm ready to discover a shot valve-seat or bushing or any of that. I'm frustrated enough with having gotten stranded in the bike-path of a highway twice. 402 is NOT fun to be sitting next to, especially when 2 semi's pass you at the same time in either lane. Makes you worry bout that rear-view mirror.

I know, I'm sounding silly. But I'm worried now about this, and I don't want to spend $200 replacing parts to find out a screw is missing. I'd rather pay $40 for some people to tell me what’s going on, then either fix it myself or have them do it.

Don't pay $410 for any one single component of the Tercel - it's way too much. Head work shouldn't even be that expensive if you take the head off and take it to a shop for machining. You have to find a shop that won't gouge you, but they are around. What area of emissions did you fail? There might be a trick that can get you through it.

How bout starting a new thread where you state your goals...like I want to pass emmisions or ?....and what you've tried....parts you've replaced....exact symptoms....etc.

...enter the Zen.......

I got it to pass.

Can I wire up the 3rd light without major headaches? What about that washer fluid issue?

The light is no problem. Wire one lead to the brake light on one of the taillights and the other to ground.

I've taken a couple of 3rd Brake lights out of 87's, and it's not a big deal to take off the trim cover on the hatch and take the entire wiring harness with the light ( if i remember correctly, you have to unplug 3 plugs )......and then it should plug right in to the wiring in your car's hatch with no problem. Now.....my light doesn't work....BUT, neither does my license plate light ( or my rear speakers). However, the license plate light and the speakers were not working before I installed the 3rd light. I just haven't had time to track down the wiring to see where the problem is. There's an '87 at my junkyard now with a good set of headlights and grille , as well as the center monuted stop lamp. I'm thinkin' about snagging those and either putting them in my car of selling them.
