Can I replace 60 amp w/50 amp Alternator

I have 86 sr5 came with 60 amp alternator had ac but no longer. Can I replace my dead 60 amp alt with a rebuilt 50 amp ? I can get a great price on the 50 it is off same year terc. thanks SUV (Small Ugly Vehicle)

Does your 60 have an external regulator? Look for a black box behind the battery mounted on the fender wall. If it has an external regulator and the 50 is internal then the wiring will be very different. I just had to put a 60 onto my 50 when I did my engine swap. Reason? Wiring difference due to original body having no external regulator but new (well... thats relative) had external. Besides. I need 60 amps for the sound system that is going in.
