Amfibious tercel project

hey, i and the rest of the valset racing crew(just me and some friends with a marginal budget) are thinking of making a amfibious tercel. after watching the top gear(uk) episode where they make amfibious cars i've wanted to try my self. my toughts for now is to seal all holes in the car, weld the doors, cut a hole in the roof(for entry/exit), make socks(from bigger tyers) for the wheels with "shovels" on, attache some barrels in the front for flotation and replace the rear shockabsorber with a metal rod. if anyone have driven a terc into a lake or something i want some info about the floatingskills.
it would be very nice to get some input and comments on this so i can realise yet another of my crazy ideas, and maby the most crazy yet.

You could fill all the gaps in the frame with that expanding foam stuff- itd float and probably keep things water tight. Just don't put too much around the engine like they did in top gear!

NICE!! but a little out of my budget i will buy a lot of cans with expanding foam, maybe i will use it to seal the doors to, because it would be a lot of work to weld all of that. i cant wait to get started!

now its tested, just some minor leaks that will be fixd pluss some ekstra flotation to raise the front. and a propeller, we will fitt one to the driveshafts four bolts after the tranny. tryed to uppload pics, but couldent. will try later...

Now an even better reason for the nickname "turtle"! This is a way cooler mod than my thoughts of a tube frame T4 buggy. Maybe this would be better done with a hatchback? No diff in the way of the prop and a lighter car. Have you shaved every non essential pound off? And I mean everything.

There's gotta be a prop with the right rotation out there. Much water getting in the trans? If so, might want to consider a marine GL5. They can be much more water resistant than other lubes. If you get the prop situation straightened out a thin skidplate/hull up front could help you move thru the water easier and deflect it away from the driveline. That would be sweet if it moved fast enough to make the belly pan self bailing.

good to hear that someone like what i do, here people say i'm crazy not many hatchback tercs in norway, and this is a tercel 4WD wagon thing. that's the car i want to honor by showing the world that there isnt any limits to what this car can manage and endure since i was a child i always thougt of the tercel as the unbreakable car(we named my dads terc the supercar(superbilen)). the trans in this car is ruind so i'm not gonna spend money on expensive oil, but it havent been a problen yet. the problem for now is that the clutch is stuck, and the starter wont turn the engine(it clicks inn, but no turning) so i need to towstart it. the propp is put aside for now and "showels" made of tyres stripped to the wheels are under testing. the dash is still there but stuff like the cupe fan is taken out. we also lowerd the front flotation so it would be more effective.

ps. if the showelstuff wont work i will try to make a new rear suspention from the front(and remove the rear axel) so i can get the prop out the back.
