Oil grunge seep

Post by celtglen »

Hello,

I have an oil seep--I know where the seep is coming FROM--I don't know what the heck this thing is.

If you look just to the left of the distributor (towards the front of the car) there are TWO large round indentations--they are about 6 inches apart--below the spark plugs and above the starter.

What the heck are these things?
And do they have seals on the inside of the engine?

thanks

I do not think oil can leak from there either, I suspect you are talking about the mounting bosses on the side of the block, or on the side of the head. These just bottom out in the casting, they are mounts for something not used in our cars. They can not leak unless the block is crack, not very likely. keep looking for the leak by cleaning the engine with degreaser and watching for fresh leaks. They also sell some greenish dye at the auto parts store for the motor oil that will glow with a black light. It is to help you isolate an oil leak.
