that's way too much for such a beater. lots of broken light lenses, rear hatch latch and window wiper, missing headlight bezel, weird driver seat, extreme rust...

looks like the guy put a lot money into mechanically but neglected the body, now trying to recover part of the cost. Too bad, the rust could means it is a parts car if underside is as bad as the body. Might be worth about $500-600 at best for engine and trans, and perhaps inclineometer if it has one.

Looks like suffered front end damage too, that is a 2wd grill and headlights arrangement (and one front fender looks compression buckled). The seat looks like the '87 MR2 seat, I have them in mine and they fit good and are very comfortable. Also the rear license plate frame (pop dispenser) is out of an '87, not '83. That is the only year they used that style.

He should find a good body and just swap all of his new/rebuilt parts over to it.
