Interchangeable CV joints?

Post by Polar Bear »

Hi,
I cant find an answer using search, so can anyone help me out.
Is there any other Toyota CV joints that fit the Terc? Here in Europe those Terc joints are a pita to find... I keep looking from different parts cataloques, but can't seem to find anything that is the same part no. as in Terc. FWD Corolla 88-92 might have the same CV:s, but I'm not sure.
Any help is appreciated :D

Forget about the corolla one not the same, transverse engine and terc longitunal! I can get tercel one for 100$ each here in Canada, so never went further on that thought, and are strong enough! If you come across anything let me know! I would not mind a potential upgrade there tho!
You can always refurbish them if not too worn internally, but kind costly like that cheaper to buy a whole one and need a good set of pullers! I've rebuilded mine cause I'm finicky, got better bearings matched! If really nothing is find able down there like not even in the wreckers where you could grab a bunch a make yourself some good ones! Maybe have them machined to hold oversize bearings, the'll be a little weaker but very expensive! Good luck! Dunno what else to suggest hopefully someone went down that track for you!

thanks lil beast, didn't thought about the difference between the engines. I managed to track down some Terc originals, but the outer cv cannot be changed individually? So i have to change the whole rod... a bit pricey, 120 Eur / piece. And still not sure if they fit, I'd have to measure the grooves on the rod before buying, but I don't want to take her apart, she still runs. But the seller says there's two different sizes for the terc- and of course ones for left and ones for the right side.

The axle assemblies I thought were the same for all models of the 2nd gen TErcel, FWD hatch back, 4 door and wagon, including the 4wd. Should be the same for all models from '83 to 86, and the 4wd wagon through '88 (the last year they were made). So I do not know where the difference would be, I have interchanged them from one model to the other.
'87 Tercel 4wd SR5 (current engine swap project)
'84 Tercel 4wd (daily driver, with on going mods)
'92 Mazda MPV 4wd (wife's daily driver)
'85 Tercel 4wd DLX auto(daughter's daily driver)
'01 Honda Civic (other daughter's daily driver)
