Ice Racing

Post by LittleRed4wd »

I took the tercel to a practice ice racing day and it was a blast! I know this is nothing compared to what member shanehutton does with his ride, but it was still awesome to race a stock tercel. I have studded snows, but since it was a practice day I raced with all different kinds of tires. Anything without studs was an easy victory, even super modded subarus and audis. The best races, though, were against cars with studs. I won against a Subaru STI and an Audi A4 turbo-- both of those cars had the same tires I do. The tercel is amazing on the ice, the lack of power and a center diff make it have great traction without enough wheel spin to loose it. Everyone up there I talked to was super suprized about how it performed.

Unfortunately, I was there alone so no action pics, but the group putting the races on took pics so I'll link to those if I see any of me on their site.

Way to represent! Wonder how many times those subie/audi drivers banged their steering wheels on the way home. These cars handle pretty well mostly due to their front/rear weight balance. Hopefully this weekend I can autocross my T4 again and will post video if I can find my camcorder. Gotta 'verify' the new jets in the weber are working properly....
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.

Congrates on the great run. I think careful driving technique is more important on ice than power, which is what the turbo drivers discovered I guess. You out drove them even with an old underpowered Tercel, hah!

Way to go that's what i am after aswell haven't did any official runs yet only unofficials after the races as i volunteer for WCRA here in Canada, and building my tercel in part fot ice racing.
Keep it up, show them that secret weapon called "TERCEL"!!!!! Too much power is as bad as not enough. Espacially on ice!!

And talking of Tercel hidden behind turbos, I don't know what's up with that, turbos do like and try to bring N/A's down. Here's mine:

Far right if can't it, all uncomfortably tucked on the side. She felt apart let me tell you!

Great to see you are out there with the T-cel. My season starts again on Jan 21st and with some suspension mods and a 4a-fc I hope to be at the front this year in my new class. I was 4th last year in this class and won the other so I hope for another championship for the old Tercel. I also have a MR2 for the RWD class so it will be fun going back and forth. Keep it up and get some action photos.

Went out for some more ice action today-- got second place in my studded tire division. Still pretty good considering all the cars I was up against had turbos. I had my friend take some pictures:

Hah. I think I lost to you at that practice day in my ~300hp Audi. No studs, but i was still impressed. And now I have a 4wd tercel of my own! (not that it replaces any of my Audis...)

Haha, no. I'd still pick the Audi for Ice racing, but some studded tires and a shorter wheel base would help. I was just pretty impressed with the Tercel.
