do a search of the archives, it has been done lots of times and a number of ways, find the "barto lift" thread. longer springs and shocks, spacers, etc have been tried.

A word of caution: if you lift it more than an inch or two you have to do some major changes to prevent the struts from topping out (damages the upper seal) or from damaging your CV and U-joints because of the increased angle. So you have to shim down the engine and trans cross members, change the angle of the rear axle (so the diff is nose up). this will lose some of the ground clearance the lift gain you, but you will still have more clearance in the center of the car to prevent high centering. Other changes will have to be done with major cutting and welding to the chassis.

There have been a few who have just attached Tercel bodies onto 4x4 truck frames, giving them more mod options and much more ground clearance. Not pretty, but it was the ultimate in lift.
