Welcome to the list!

all of the front axles are the same for all model Tercels from '83-86, and the '83-'88 Tercel4wd wagon. I do not think you wil get a wrong axle if you know this (the '87 and newer 2wd tercel switched to totally different drive train wit the transverse engine and trans). Buy new axles rather than rebuilt or remanufacgtured ones, they hold up better and have fewer quality problems. There are only a few manufacturers for axles from a car this old, EMPI in the USA is one, I do not know what you would have available in UK.

The 1452cc engine is the 3a engine, the 3ac was one sold in the TErcel in North America, yours is likely different but all of the 3a engines are mechancillly the same, the changes were in emissions controls and carburetor.
'87 Tercel 4wd SR5 (current engine swap project)
'84 Tercel 4wd (daily driver, with on going mods)
'92 Mazda MPV 4wd (wife's daily driver)
'85 Tercel 4wd DLX auto(daughter's daily driver)
'01 Honda Civic (other daughter's daily driver)

hey derek, it's normally difficult to get our of 4WD unless you are on a slippery surface like mud, snow, or gravel. i won't get into why but don't worry about it. i find the easiest way to shift out of 4WD is to be moving, take my foot of the gas and push in the clutch, and shift the 4WD lever firmly back into FWD. like i said, it's easier on slippery surfaces so sometimes you have to try it a few times when on pavement.

glad you finally found some CVs!

Derek -
This may be too late, but - I am sending an email to GSP North America and mentioning your situation. Hopefully it will get back to me by tomorrow (late Wednesday your time).

Derek -
No answer yet - I just now sent another query to a different contact at GSP North America.
Hopefully the answer will arrive before Friday morning, so you can order them and not interrupt your viewing of THE wedding...
