Hi! just bought it bought an 85 manual 4x4 ((beater)) - am thrilled.
It's missing the rear cargo area cover. Does anyone know where I can find one on the cheap online? Or what exactly you call that thing that stretches over the trunk area? Heading to my local picknpull tomorrow but if anyone here has a spare kicking around I'd love to purchase it. Also it's got a stock stereo that's busted and no speakers - can anyone recommend some that work well?
Thanks!

hi MH. the rear cargo covers are another difficult to find item, mainly because they're flimsy and weak, and get trashed if you actually use them. i think it's just really thin press board with carpet on it.
as for stereo, if you search 'stereo wiring' or something like that you'll find a recent thread with the colour code for the stereo wiring. very useful. i bought the cheapest stereo i could find with USB and 1/4" inputs on it (a 'dual' brand for $100 new). works great but you can find much cheaper used. any new speakers will sound good. i have zero brand loyalty for stereo stuff, just get a good range of speaker sizes and EQ your stereo properly. i have some pimp brand of 4" speakers up front that i got on clearance, 6.5" pioneers in the back, and some no-name amp and 12" sub in the back. sounds deadly. i think the back speakers are 5.25" stock but the PO oversized the speaker mounts for 6.5". either size will sound fine though.

Re: Looking for a rear cargo cover shade thingy and stereo
welcome to the list!
What color is the interior of your car? the rear cargo covers show up occasionally in the local yard, they came is several colors. When I see a good one in the yard I grab it and post it here. I still have mine but it too is all beat up, I am going to use it to make a new one from marine plywood or something more durable than wood pulp. They are not difficult to make from 1/4" plywood.
I would go to the wrecking yard and get a factory stereo, that way it just plugs in and looks "vintage". Any model toyota radio from those years ('83-87) should just bolt in and plug into the connector. If you install a new radio, even a cheap one, it will attract low lifes to break into your car to steal it, will do lots of damage to your car so the low life can get a used radio worth maybe $20.

Re: Looking for a rear cargo cover shade thingy and stereo
I picked up a Pioneer stereo from Crutchfield with USB and 1/8" inputs and it came with a Toyota harness, with shipping it was under $100. Still need to put a set of speakers in the back but there are a few other things that need to come first.
