I had planned to buy the car but Winter ills and funky state of mind brought on by same as well as other factors led me to miss the car. The owners retired the car to the state of CA and I learned that it went to the Pick & Pull yard in Richmond CA. The vin is JT2AL35W8J0301538. I called the yard in Oakland and they wouldn't take the time to check the number to see if it is still above ground. This is a list of the cars by years & date added to inventory in three yards: Oakland 1988 1/20/11 1985 3/1/11 Richmond 1987 3/4/11 Newark 1987 2/15/11 1987 1/11/11. My '88 Terc has a worn spot on the edge of the drivers seat. Can someone tell me where in the vin I will find the trim code so I can identify the upholstery?

I beileve the trim code is under the hood on a plate rivetted to the firewall. It's behind and above the cylinder head. Not sure this will help you since finding the original upholstery is a very daunting task. But if you do find it by all means let us know the details.
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.

What a damn shame the car was retired. As far as I know, the car has to be crushed by the dismantler, so it might not even be there. It's very hard to come across an '88 model in CA, too bad, I have a spare engine sitting here I could've dropped in there...

with the new higher prices for clean ones, this might have even been a profitable purchase with a rebuild. As long as it was sold out of state.
