High altitude carburetor adjustment

Post by Tercel4WDwannabe »

When I moved to CO from MN a few months ago I noticed the exhaust seems to "chug" a bit more than it used to. Also, I can smell an excess of gasoline when I start her up and it doesn't run the same as it used to in MN. So, I have a feeling that the carb isn't set right considering the higher altitude. Can anyone tell an automotive novice how to adjust the carburetor for higher altitudes? I looked at the diagram (from this site's service manual) on how to adjust it, but I'm a bit too unlearned to understand it. I live in Steamboat Springs where expensive mechanics are a-dime-a-dozen, so I'd rather try to service it on my own. It's about time for an oil change and the weather is getting nice so I'm about to get under the hood. Anyone out there that can simplify it with pics and/or easy to understand instructions?

I've got an 85 4WD Tercel... 3AC I believe
